about
I wrote this song for my mates, commenting on our fun, fast-paced, over-caffeinated lives as we run around throughout our early-twenties trying to keep up with everyday social pressures and the never-ending race to achievement. We would spend our last dollar to show face at all the social outings, whilst attempting to figure out who and what we love and always ending up at the same pub each week. It’s an honest, tongue-in-cheek reflection of the sub-culture bubble that we lived within.
lyrics
All my friends are twenty something, and keep on falling in love
All my friends are searching for anything, that keeps them moving along
But, don’t you stop, don’t you stop,
The next thing’s always coming around
And all my friends are twenty-something, and most of them are broke
But plan that trip and book that ticket anyway, you’ll get the job
Well don’t you stop, don’t you stop,
The next thing’s always coming around
Our hands are shaking from all the caffeine, and skipping too many meals
You’re looking thinner, I think I am too,
So we must be doing well, are you doing well?
I swear we’re doing well, we’re all doing so well
But I can see you’re exhausted and you’re pushing through
To get that social contact, everyone expects of you
And I can see you’re exhausted and you’re pushing through
So buy the next round, ignore your account
Get there, look good, be seen, fit in
But, don’t you stop, don’t you stop,
The next thing’s always coming around
I’ll meet you there tonight, at the same time, same place, all the same faces
Same small talk, all the same phrases, ignore your problems, share the same graces
Don’t miss a second of this, don’t miss a second of this
Don’t miss a second of this, don’t miss a second of this
We’re falling in love, our hands are shaking, don’t miss a second of this
We can’t afford rent and we’re so damn anxious, don’t miss a second of this
We’re twenty something, we’re twenty something
We’re twenty something, we’re twenty something
